Who uses contract roasting

New coffee brands

You want to sell coffee under your own brand but you do not want to invest $50,000+ in a roaster, premises, and equipment. Contract roasting lets you launch with zero capital expenditure on production.

Cafe owners

You run a cafe and want your own house blend. Bags with your brand on the counter, your blend in the hopper. Contract roasting makes it happen without the overhead.

Subscription companies

You sell coffee subscriptions online and need consistent, high-quality roasted coffee every week. Contract roasting gives you reliable production without managing it yourself.

Existing brands

Your current roaster is at capacity, or you need a backup facility, or you are expanding into a new region. Our network gives you options without starting from scratch.

Retail and FMCG

You need shelf-ready coffee for supermarkets, specialty grocers, or corporate clients. Volume production, compliant labelling, consistent quality.

Common questions

What is contract coffee roasting?

Contract roasting is when a commercial roastery roasts coffee on your behalf. You supply the green beans (toll roasting) or the roaster sources them for you (contract roasting). The roasted coffee is packaged under your brand or in plain bags.

What is the minimum order?

Most roasters in our network have a minimum of 10-25kg per order. This varies by roaster and service type. Toll roasting minimums are typically lower than full-service contract roasting.

Do I need to supply my own green beans?

Not necessarily. Toll roasting requires you to supply green beans. Contract roasting and brand development include green bean sourcing as part of the service. Many clients start with sourced beans and move to their own supply as they scale.

How does pricing work?

Toll roasting is priced per kilogram of roasted output, typically $3-6/kg depending on volume. Full-service contract roasting (including green beans and packaging) ranges from $15-28/kg. Volume commitments unlock better rates.

What about food safety and labelling?

All roasters in our network follow food safety standards. For packaged products, Australian food labelling requires an ingredient list, country of origin, allergen declarations, best-before date, and business contact details. Full-service roasters can advise on compliance.

Can I visit the roastery?

Most roasters welcome visits, especially before you commit. We encourage meeting your matched roaster, seeing the facility, and cupping together. It is the best way to build confidence in the partnership.

How long from enquiry to first roast?

Typically 2-3 weeks. Week one: conversation and requirements. Week two: sample roast. Week three: first production order. Urgent timelines can sometimes be accommodated.

Is there a lock-in contract?

No lock-in for first orders. Volume-based pricing tiers require a 3-month rolling commitment with 4 weeks notice to exit. This protects both you and the roaster by ensuring capacity is available.
